Good afternoon, everyone and welcome to Headline News. I’m Thomas Roberts. And I’m Kathleen Kennedy. Good to see you. Here’re the headlines. Memorials 기념식 are taking place 열리다, 개최되다 around the US and the world on this 5th anniversary <해마다 돌아오는> 기념일 of the September 11th attacks. In New York City, memorial concerts have followed a mourning <죽음에 대한> 애도 of observances 행사, 의식. Across the nation, Americans are marking 기념하다 the 5th anniversary of 9/11. In New York, it took several hours to read all the names of those who died at the attacks at the World Trade Center. Sumi Das joins us now from ground zero with more on how New Yorkers are posing 자세를 취하다 to remember. Sumi?

 

Thanks very much, Kathleen and you’re absolutely right. It took three and a half hours to read all of those names of the victims. Now this spot, where I’m standing, before the attacks of 9/11, it stood in the shadow of the World Trade Center. Now it overlooks 내려다보다 ground zero. This is a place where many have come today to mark the somber 엄숙한 anniversary.

 

“5 years have come and gone and we still stand together as one.” 5 years on, trumpet sound. Bagpipes 스코틀랜드 고지인의 취주 악기 wail 구슬픈 소리를 내다. Tears can’t be stopped and heartbreak 비탄 remains. The sites, where tragedy 비극 stuck on 9/11 five years ago, become memorials 기념관. Vice President 부통령, Dick Cheney, observes <의식 > 거행하다 a moment of silence at the Pentagon 국방부 and at ground zero, one-by-one, victims’ names were read aloud. “This year, we have asked their spouses 배우자, partners, and significant others to lead the ceremonies.”
