Plus it started with a home video shot at a zoo. Five years and billions of hits later, Youtube has become our window to the world. From CBS News world headquarters in New York, this is the CBS Evening News. And finally tonight, happy birthday Youtube. Hard to believe it’s only five, it’s already an institution. Everyday Youtube gets over 1 billion views and add it all together has 1,700 years worth of video. As Ben Tracey reports, it all started at the zoo.

And those videos have become so popular that more than 96 million people visit the site every month. That's why Google bought it in 2006 for more than $1.6 billion.
Now the same site that helped discover teen sensation Justin Bieber and spread Susan Boyle’s dream is also a portal for free speech. Protesters in Iran used it to get out their reform message and Americans fed up with banks and airlines use it to vent. Air travel sucks in the US YouTube is also changing broadcasting, advertising. "That anyone with a webcam can become a star." “No agent. No money.” "No agent, no managers, no lawyers needed.” “And upload it." And so many do.
