(스포츠) 부상을 딛고서…..

And turning point. Tonight, we update a heart-breaking story about an American champion who was going for a gold medal. Nightly News begins now. If you were watching this broadcast back during the Olympic Games in Vancouver, then you saw a heart-breaking story we’re gong to reintroduce you to tonight. A promising and focused young man in a high risk sport with high hopes for an Olympic gold medal until the accident that stopped his plans cold갑자기 완전히. We watched his mother, his father struggle. We wondered how he was really recovering. Tonight we find out and Tom Brokaw has our report.

After a terribly difficult journey, “I’ve been looking forward to this moment for so on,” Kevin Pierce finally has come home. Five months ago, Pierce was at the top of his game. A world class snowboarder and a favorite to medal for the US Olympic team in Vancouver, then tragedy struck. A new year’s eve while practicing a new high risk trick, the double cork in Park City, Utah, Pierce slammed his head into the ice he leaped높이 뛰어오르다 of a half pipe. Near death. He was put on a breathing tube A month later, he was moved to a rehabilitation hospital where his entire family watched as he slowly learned to walk and talked again.

Brother Adam never left his bedside. Last weekend, Kevin finally came home to Norwich, Vermont. What he never lost is his sense of humor. “I’ve got a couple of scars in my head. Extreme close up.” But he is clearly aware of just how critical his situation was. “I did come very close to death. It was so traumatic and so intense When NBC News visited Kevin and his home last September before the injury, it was clear that Kevin had a special relationship with his brother David who has Down syndrome. The family believes this latest chapter has only strengthened their bond. “I think every family has challenges to face at one point or another. And I feel like we’re…. we’ve done what you know we needed to do.”

“A gold medal is obviously the dream of every Olympian. But there are other rewards in life as well.” “Having something like this happened to you just totally changes your perspective on things and kind of totally changes how you look at the world. Just being alive and being able to be okay and be with my family is much more important to me.” “Good to have everybody home again.” “Oh my god. So happy.” A homecoming not just for Kevin Pierce, but homecoming for a very special family. Tom Brokaw, NBC News, Norwich, Vermont. And that’s our broadcast for this Tuesday night. Thank you as always for being with us. I’m Brian Williams. And we hope to see you right back here tomorrow evening. Good night.
