And a sub story. Researchers find two high-tech Japanese submarines that were designed to attack major US cities during World War II. After spending four years searching off Hawaii and being tracked by National Geographic, explorers have discovered Japanese attack submarines that the US sent to the ocean floor in 1946. Submarines that could have changed the course of World War II. Here’s David Wright.

 

It's a chapter of World War II that was hidden beneath the Pacific for 60 years. A group of top secret Japanese submarines so advanced that shortly after the Americans captured them, the Navy wasted little time in sinking them. The I-14 Sentoku class sub was a technological marvel, able to travel one and a half times around the world without refueling. Folded up inside its water tight compartments were kamikaze airplanes that could take off right from the deck. A weapon designed to strike at New York and Washington.

 

A team of explorers from Hawaii's Undersea Research Laboratory went in search of the secret subs. “In1946, they didn't have GPS, and they really didn't care where they dumped them.” The explorers used archival기록보관소의 film footage shot by the US Navy when it sank the subs and compared those images to the horizon수평선 that they were seeing. “We could see background Oahu 1946. And we were able to get some landmarks.” It took four years of searching deep beneath the waves before they ultimately found what they were looking for.
