러시아 미국 스파이 포로교환

Spy games. Those accused Russian spies who were living like their American neighbors. Are they about to spark a spy swap between nations? We have more tonight on the strange case of those 10 people masquerading가장하다 as Americans and accused of acting as agents for Russia by blending into숨다 뒤섞이다 life in this country. It just got even more strange. It now looks like there is a deal in the works that could result in a vestige흔적 자취 of the cold war era. A spy exchange. Our report from our justice correspondent Pete Williams.

The latest figure to enter the Russian secret agent drama is this man, Ygo Suyagan, convicted six years ago in Russia of spying for the United States. Now his brother says Suyagan could soon be sent to the US, part of a swap including nine others in Russia in exchange for ten people arrested here two weeks ago and accused of being Russian secret agents. The matter is being handled at the highest level of the US and Russian government, his brother said today in Moscow.

At the home of Russia’s ambassador to the US, a senior American diplomat talked today about the potential swap. Three of the accused Russian agents in Virginia and two others in Boston were ordered today to New York to join the other five defendants all brought together in a single case there. Legal sources say plea discussions are under way between their lawyers and federal prosecutors.

A former government lawyer says that deal would make sense. “The government has obviously had these people under surveillance for a long period of time. But I’m sure they have a number of questions that they’d like answered about how this whole operation ran.

One of the ten defendants, Anna Chapman, a New York business woman, got even more exposure when her former husband released revealing pictures of her to a London tabloid. Her lawyer says she felt betrayed. Legal sources say before any exchange with the Russians, those ten defendants here would have to plead guilty, but this is a fast moving case. Those pleas could come within a matter of days. Pete Williams, NBC News, Washington.
