ABC Good Morning America

Good morning, America? I’m Dian Sawyer, reporting from the capital of North Korea on this morning of breaking news. The American Secretary of State 국무장관 in this region has made a declaration 선언, 포고 that the US will use full military might 군사력 to defend Japan if necessary. On this morning in which there’re increasing reports that the North Koreans are indeed planning another nuclear test. And that is coming up.

Also this morning, deadly October! Nearly a dozen American troops killed in Iraq in the last 24 hours puts this month on page to be one of the worst for US troops in Iraq yet <최상급 함께> 현재까지로는. What will stem 막다, 저지하다 the violence? And kids fighting back! The new lesson plan is ‘Attack’. Do school kids really have a chance against a gunman in the classroom?

It was, said the Weather Service, the single snowiest October day that Buffalo, New York has ever had. The earliest snow on record for cities like Chicago and Detroit. “The end of October, beginning of November we might see something like this, but never, never this early!

In some places, the snow was 23 inches deep. 380,000 homes and businesses without power, 70% of the people in parts of western New York State. “Who would think? How many days it is before Halloween 10 31?”

Look at all the green mixed in with the white. That’s part of the problem. The storm happened before the leaves had a chance to fall from the trees, even before they had a chance to turn fall colors. So in some areas, half the trees were toppled <쓰러질 > 앞으로 기울다 by the heavy snow that settled on them, taking down power lines along with them.

The snow was made all the worse by what’s called ‘Lake Effect. Buffalo is right at the eastern tip of Lake Eerie. Lake effect snow forms when moisture evaporating 증발하다 from the warm waters of the lake is picked up <속력> 내다 by much colder winds blowing over it. As those winds reach land, they dump 와르르 쏟아 버리다 the moisture in the form of snow. Ned Potter, ABC News, New York.
