McDonald’s special sauce has always been nostalgia 향수. Ask anyone about their memories of their first trips to McDonald’s and you’ll no doubt hear stories about first jobs, first friends, first bike rides. No matter where you were, the McDonald’s across the street look like the McDonald’s across the country. That familiarity 친밀, 친근감 made the restaurant an icon.
Fast forward to the new McDonald’s. With its plasma TVs, soft couches and wireless Internet access, the dining 식사 area is not just for dining. Half are getting the makeover by the end of this year. The iconic McDonald’s rooftops have an updated look. The kid focused and kid proofed decor 실내장식 is now decidedly grown up. There’s mood lighting, trendy art work, even fireplaces. “We want to have you come in and relax and enjoy, be comfortable.”
For decades, the hard plastic, unmovable furniture was designed to be uncomfortable. McDonald’s wanted people in and out quickly, so billions and billions could be served. Today, that vision has changed. The new, modern, relaxed interiors invite people to linger <떠나지 않고> 꾸물거리다.
Some say the new interiors are pointless. “Hard to imagine putting a couch in a McDonald’s. Just… it just doesn’t go.” But by getting rid of the old song and dance, McDonald’s hopes to give customers a new reason to come back. Eric Hong, ABC News,
