(날씨) 거대 태풍 일본 강타 JFKN.COM Welcome to World News tonight! Super Storm threatens 65 million Americans and we'll show the monster typhoon heading straight for a US military base right now! From ABC News, world headquarters, this is ABC World News with Diane Sawyer! Good evening to you on this new week after a holiday weekend! And it begins with a new stretch of storm from Nebraska to Main targeting 65 million people! At least a dozen tornadoes already deployed against Iowa yesterday with a kind of savage beauty. Bold lightening strikes in Wyoming from the clouds overhead to the city below and at this hours, a new buildup of storm cells underway! We also want to tell you tonight about a monster typhoon. 700 miles wide and bearing down on 52,000 American military members and their families who are stationed in Okinawa, Japan. ABC's David Kerley tells us how they are digging in to ride out this storm. Already heavy surf and rain are hitting Okinawa. This enormous typhoon could be one of the strongest storms to hit Japan in decades. And in the path, 52,000 Americans, service members and their families, on the island of Okinawa. This 700-mile wide storm typhoon NIAGRI is still packing winds of at least 125 miles an hour. That's equivalent of a category 3 hurricane in the U. S. Tonight, just 190 miles from Okinawa, it is expected to hit tomorrow. Japanese weather officials have issued their highest warning, worried about storm surge, the possibility of severe flooding. And the U. S. Military heeded those warnings. Over the past 24 hours, it started flying out aircraft. C-130 transports, sub hunters, the P-3s and P-8s, as well as the refueling tankers, the KC-135. 61 aircraft in all have been flown to other bases in the Pacific. If the warnings weren't enough to show the enormous potential and size of this storm, just take a look at these shots from the space station, which flew right over NEAGRI. NEAGRI means raccoon in Korean. It has been downgraded from a super typhoon. Its track takes it right past Okinawa and then it starts heading for the Japanese main land. Diane, it's not expected to get stronger as it hits colder waters in the north, closer to the Japan mainland. All right, David, but everyone here wishing them well tonight, thank you.
