Good morning, the hot zone. A big portion of the eastern US bracing for a heat wave while out west, more than a 100 wildfires rage. Dozens of homes destroyed by an unprecedented blaze in Washington State. We are there live. Worth the wait? Donald Trump finally gets specific on key issues in the presidential campaign, hitting on immigration "They have to go!", sending ground troops back to Iraq. "We go and knock the hell out of the oil, take back the oil" And it's a jungle out there. A blistering article about working conditions at Amazon goes viral. Claims of 80 hour work weeks, brutal competition, employees reduced to tears. How the company's CEO is firing back today, Monday, August 17th 2015. From NBC news, this is Today with Matt Lauer and Savannah Gathrie. Live from Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza.
And good morning, welcome to Today on a Monday morning. I talk about that Amazon story. The working conditions at Amazon going viral. It hit the front page of the New York Times yesterday. And it's getting enormous traction. That's right. It’s the most emailed, most read story on that New York Times website right now, describes this cruel and backstabbing culture in Amazon. This is not the company I recognize. We'll have a lot more on the controversy coming.
And Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's first concrete policy proposals. They are controversial. NBC's KITTY TUR here is more on that. KITTY, good morning to you! Good morning, Matt. They include his plan for undocumented immigrants and their families as well as paying for the wall, at least partially with increased visa fees, not to mention how he gets information on foreign policy and the military. Today the Republican frontrunner's putting substance over style. On Meet the Press, unveiling his immigration plan including deporting undocumented immigrants. "They have to go. Chuck, We either have a country or we don't have a country?" Discussing how to defeat ISIS, Trump opened the door to sending in ground troops. "You go and knock the hell out of the oil, take back the oil, we take over the oil which we should have done in the first place" Trump even offered this window into his thinking "Who do you talk to for a military advice, right now? Well, I watch shows" Trump said he is not ready to rule out a third party bid, but offered praise for the GOP. "I am not prepared to close that door yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if someday, not too distant future, it happens. They are treating me very well. I just want to be treated fairly"
