“And all the way out.” Heather Schopp is a chiropractor 척추교정 지압요법 전문가 in California, dealing every day with her clients' physical pain. Her own pain is financial. At age 29, she is more than $170,000 in debt. "I think about it all the time. I mean, I will go to bed, thinking in my head, 'Okay, this is how much money I have. What do I have to do tomorrow? Do I have to buy anything? How many days until my next paycheck 급료?’"
She’s a member of an expanding, in fact, exploding generation, Generation Debt. Twenty-somethings 20대 weighed down 괴롭히다, 의기소침하게 하다 by credit card bills and student loans. “We can’t even compare it to a generation ago. The reality is just in the last decade, the amount of student loan debt that college graduates have today is double what it used to be.”
Two-thirds of college students now take out student loans. No wonder with the cost of college up 250% in the last 30 years. Add that to the credit cards. 76% of undergraduates have credit cards now for books, food, fun, and tuition. The average balance is more than $2,000. It’s a burden simply too great for many entering the work force with modest starting salaries that are not keeping pace with ~와 보조를 맞추다 inflation.
“I look at how much I have for student loans and I look at what I’m making and I’m thinking, ‘Ok, how do these two match up 조화하다?’” They don’t match up. “We’re going to look back and we’re going to remember this generation as either the generation that saved the American dream or the generation that lived through its demise 소멸.” For Heather Schopp, that dream was being a chiropractor.
