Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us on CNN Headline News. I’m Christina Park. Here’s a look at our top stories. Some parts of the Midwest are still digging out 파내다 from last week’s massive snowstorm 눈보라. It is blamed for at least 15 deaths from Texas to Michigan. It could be days before power is restored 복구하다 to hundreds of thousands of people.

 

More than 300 passengers and 46 crew members contracted <병에> 걸리다 a virus during a 7-day Caribbean cruise. All were treated with over-the-counter medication 처방전에 필요 없는 for norovirus. Norovirus symptoms are similar to stomach flu. The Royal Caribbean cruise ship 유람선 docked <> 부두 대다 Sunday at Miami as shedueled. That cruise line says a guest who previously been exposed to norovirus probably brought it on board last month.

 

Congress is taking up ~ 착수하다, 처리하다 a lot of unfinished business with a little more than a week left in the session 회기, 개회<개정>. Most of the untouched bills <의회> 법안, 의안 will be passed onto the next Congress. The lame duck <임기 남아 있는> 낙선 의원 lawmakers are expected to confirm Robert Gates as the new Defense Secretary 국방장관. They’re also expected to approve a temporary 임시의 spending bill to prevent a government shutdown.

 

As the war drags on 질질 오래 끌다, one thing seems certain. Change is coming to Iraq. President Bush has already said he isn’t going to have troops just up and leave. But he is apparently <보기에> ~ 같은 considering some pretty major changes to his policy. They include some suggestions Defense Secretary Dondald Rumsfeld made in a classified <군사 정보·문서 > 기밀 취급 memo just 2 days before he resigned 사임하다. He recommended some modest 신중한 troop withdrawal 철수 saying the current strategy just isn’t working.

 

Democrats say it’s clear from the memo, neither Rumsfeld nor anyone else thought the president’s policy in Iraq makes any sense. The President’s National Security Advisor 국가 안보 보좌관 says the US has not failed in Iraq and that Iraq is ready to start fending for itself 자활하다 at least in some areas.
