Good morning, America? Happy New Year! We’re learning new details this morning about the execution 사형 집행 of Saddam Hussein and how the former dictator’s being remembered inside Iraq. ABC’s Terry McCarthy joins us from Baghdad. Good morning, Terry?

 

Good morning, Ron? Saddam Hussein’s body was buried 파묻다, 매장하다 early this morning in the same town where he was born 69 years ago, just north of Baghdad. Meanwhile, some disturbing 우려할만한 new video of Saddam’s hanging 교수형 has begun to appear on Arabic television channels.

 

Saddam’s body was handed over to tribal 부족의 elders in the town of Awja, 80 miles north of Baghdad. They buried him in a small ceremony before dawn. Few people turned out for the ceremony and there was heavy American security in the area.

 

Meanwhile, new footage 촬영필름 of Saddam’s hanging, apparently ~인 것 같은 shot on a cell phone, appeared on regional television stations showing that the guards taunted 조롱하다 Saddam in his final minutes. As prayers invoking ~를 빌다, ~를 부르다 god are said by Saddam, some of the guards begin chanting 일제히 외치다 Muqtada, Muqtada referring to Muqtada Al-Sadr, the cleric 성직자 in charge of the biggest Shiite militia who are bitter enemies both of Saddam and Sunnis in general.

 

Saddam responds angrily. Do you call this unity? This has torn Iraq apart. The video shows Saddam’s body dropping through the trap door and then someone says the tyrant 폭군, 전제군주 has fallen, may god curse him. The sectarian 분파의, 종파의 insults are likely to be deeply offensive 참을 수 없는, 모욕적인 to Sunnis in Iraq. It should not be done that way, says this man from Saddam’s hometown, I think that things will turn out for the worst.

 

Shiites, however, celebrated the execution. Saddam Hussein was not widely liked here even among the Sunni community. But the sectarian nature of his execution does not bode <well, ill 등과 같은 부사와 함께> <좋은 또는 나쁜> 징조이다 well for the future of a country that is struggling to stop the slide into all-out 전면적인 civil war.
