War Games. President Bush says it is untrue the US is planning a military attack against Iran’s nuclear program. Tonight, we’ll have a reality check 현실 점검<직시>. Now to those reports in the news over this past weekend that the US is preparing some sort of military strike against Iran. Today President Bush said not true. But the president also said, it is true that the US does not want Tehran 테헤란, 이란의 수도to have a nuclear weapon. So what is the next step here? The story tonight from NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell.

 

Iran’s radical 과격한, 급진적인 president was defiant 반항적인 today vowing to continue his country’s nuclear research. Despite reports this weekend in the Washington Post and the New Yorker magazine that the US is considering military options against Iran.

Today, European foreign ministers 외무부 장관 met to discuss economic sanctions. A travel ban 금지 on Iran’s nuclear scientists, tighter export controls, visa restrictions 제한 for Iranian students. US officials say all the talk of military options is partly aimed at scaring Iran into backing down <주장 > 굽히다, 철회하다. But critics say that tactic 전술 can backfire 실패하다.

 

“And it ironically strengthens the hands of the hardliners 강경파 in Iran. They’re saying, see we told you, these guys are coming to get us. We have to accelerate 가속화하다 our nuclear program, not negotiate it away.” Tonight, US officials say the president still hopes that some day, Iranians will overthrow 바꾸다, 타도하다 their leaders.
