Good evening? There is a lot to tell you about tonight while the Iranians are holding 억류하다 15 British sailors and marines and while American warships swarm ~에 떼지어 몰려들다 in the waters off of ~의 연안 Iran’s coast. NBC’s Chip Reid is standing by 대기하다, 준비하다. And Chip? Why is tonight’s vote so important?

 

Well, Brian? It’s hugely important. “What we must not do is to give up just at the moment 현재 we’re starting to turn things around in Iraq.” “This war is not worth the spilling 유출 of another drop of American blood.”

 

And Brian? What happens now is that the house <집합적> 의원들 in the senate will get together and reach some kind of compromise 절충안 on a timeline. They will send it to the president. He has promised to veto it. The problem is that that timeline is attached to about 100 billion dollars in spending for the troops in Iraq. Mostly Iraq, but also Afghanistan.

Either the president is going to have to back down <주장 등을> 굽히다 and agree to sign a bill <의회> 법안 with some form of timeline in order to get that money or he will veto it, send it back to congress.
