Hello, everyone. It made headlines around the world when they got hitched <속어> 결혼하다, 합병하다. But a lot of people wondered if it would last. It didn’t. Today, they announced they’re splitting 갈라지다. Daimler and Chrysler. Just the latest sign of trouble for an American auto industry struggling against tough foreign competition. We have two reports tonight beginning with our business correspondent Anthony Mason.

 

It was the end of a troubled marriage. After nine years of an unhappy partnership with Chrysler, Daimler, the German auto giant, today formally filed for ~ 신청하다, 제기하다 divorce. “With this transaction 거래, 매매, we have created the right conditions for new start for Daimler and Chrysler.” Daimler, the parent company 모회사 of Mercedes, will sell Chrysler back to an American firm, Cerberus Capital, led by former Treasury Secretary 재무장관 John Snow. “Our objective 목표 here is…is a successful Chrysler.” “Cerberus is one of these private firms that buys off ~ 매수하다 companies and straightens them out ~ 바로잡다.”
