We’re going to turn next to gas prices. Another Monday, another record high for the price of a gallon. The government says the price of gas went up 12 cents a gallon from last week when it was already at a record high. Current average, $3.22. As ABC’s Lisa Stark reports, one reason for price increases comes long before the gas gets to the pump.

 

Well, Charlie, why are prices so high? We have told you that demand just keeps going up and we’ve reported on the fact that Americans keep buying those big, gas-guzzling <자동차 엔진 > 연료 많이 소비하는 vehicles, but what we haven’t talked much about is oil refineries 정유공장.

 

For drivers, there’s no end in sight to the gasoline price shock. It’s beginning to get beyond the budget.” The recent pain at the pump is not due to ~ 기인하는 high crude oil prices. They are below record levels. Some analysts instead point to the nation’s 149 refineries where they turn that oil into gasoline.

 

There have been more than 30 unplanned refinery shutdowns 폐쇄 since January due to everything from fires to equipment failures. That’s reduced production by about 400,000 barrels of gasoline a day, four times more than usual for this time of year.
