나이아가라 폭포의 전설

Of <복수명사와 함께> ~중에서 the five great lakes <미국> 오대호, the waters from four of them, Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie, will eventually 결국, 마침내 travel through this one spot, Niagara Falls. It is America’s first state park 주립공원. And those around here like to say the world’s first tourist destination 목적지, 행선지. But there are many other firsts at Niagara Falls. Thomas Edison first tried to harness <폭포 등의 자연력을> 동력화하다, 이용하다 energy here, but in 1893, he was beaten to the punch by a Croatian refugee 망명자 named Nicola Tesla. And hydroelectric 수력발전의 energy was born. Today, 400 miles away in New York City, 10% of the electricity still comes from Niagara Falls.

 

As much as it has inspired ~에게 <사상·감정을> 일어나게 하다 genius, Niagara has also inspired its share of daredevils 무모하게 덤비는 사람들. The first, a 62-year-old school teacher named Annie Taylor. In 1901, she went down the falls in an oak barrel <가운데가 불룩한> 통 with only a bicycle pump for oxygen. Niagara’s considered the birthplace 발상지 of the honeymoon destination or maybe the world’s first aphrodisiac 최음제, 미약. Even a love obsessed Italians are coming here. These 20 honeymooning couples are from Rome. As the saying goes, maybe it’s something in the water.

 

300 years ago when European explorers were first led to Niagara Falls by Native Americans, they were terrified. They thought the deafening 귀청이 터질 것 같은 roar of the waters was god’s powerful voice. Today, there are seven million visitors to Niagara Falls every year.
