Good morning. Breaking News. The President’s closest political advisor Karl Rove says he is resigning at the end of this month. How will that impact the White House? Shuttle Trouble. NASA said to decide, as early as today, if the Shuttle Endeavor crew needs to make a tricky space walk 우주 유영 to repair some damaged tiles.

And back to the trenches. Wall Street preparing for another potentially wild week of trading. But there are signs things are looking up today, Monday, August 13, 2007. From NBC News, this is TODAY with Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira live from Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza.

광산 붕괴, 구조 작업 난항

It is 7:09. And once again, here is David. Meredith, thanks. It’s been a week since six miners were caught in a massive 대규모의 collapse in Utah. This morning still no sign of life, but rescuers are not giving up hope. NBC’s Michelle Kozinski is in Huntington, Utah with the very latest. Michelle? Good morning to you.

Despite all of the best efforts failing, two holes drilled, a microphone and camera sent down. “We did not see any sign at all of, uh, any of the miners.” Rescuers are trying again to find the six still trapped somewhere deep within this mountain. A third hole is being drilled down more than 1,400 feet to reach another area of the partially 부분적으로 collapsed passage way 복도, 통로. And tap into what remains of hope.

“It makes me wonder what I would do if that was my husband or my brother, my dad down there. how life would just stop. So our prayers are definitely with them and we’re hoping for the best.”

It is an excruciatingly 견딜 없이, 극심하게 slow process, the digging and the waiting. Officials call the conditions down there the worst they’ve seen in entire careers. People here know both danger and disaster. One of the worst mine accidents ever happened in these hills back in 1984. The Wilberg Mine fire killed 27 men including the uncle of Brandon Phillips who is now, himself, trapped inside this mine with five of his neighbors. “I don’t think this is the time to give up hope yet.” There is still silence underground right now and quiet waiting in their home towns.
