“Hello, there?” In the sizzling 몹시 더운 south, Atlanta social worker 사회 복지사 Erica Mason carried a pair of life savers, a gift of two boxed fans. “And how about with the heat? What have we been trying to do… to be cool?” Mason’s worried about Arthur Hinton roasting 몹시 덥다, 더워지다 inside his hotbox.
In Memphis, record heat has dried up the Mississippi and killed northern crops. The deaths of five people have been blamed on hot weather. Shelby County has handed out hundreds of fans with good reason. Today’s heat index here climbed above 100 for the 28th straight day.
In Arlington, Texas, a security camera showed a playground catching fire. Officials suspect spontaneous 자연발생적인 combustion 연소. The heat actually ignited rotted 썩은 woodchips 나뭇조각. 20 other playgrounds were closed as a precaution 예방조치. And Mississippi’s burning. So hot a highway south of Jackson actually buckled <열, 압력으로 갑자기> 구부러지다.
Back in Atlanta, Erica Mason’s also worried about the Tidwells. They’re behind 미납하여 on bills and last week, their home felt like a brick oven. “You know, it’s just been hard and I’ve cut back on 줄이다 a lot things.” Including air conditioning? “Including air conditioning.” The Tidwells need to keep their air conditioning on. 100 degree temperatures will bake much of the southeast through Friday.
