From NBC News world headquarters in NY, this is NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, substituting tonight Kimble Brown.

 

Good evening? It has now been 3 years since the start of America’s Shock and Awe campaign 충격과 공포 작전 against Iraq.

3 years since the major land and air assault 습격 that quickly deposed 물러나게 하다 Saddam Hussein.

And 3 years since many here in the US and around the world have been asking, now what?

All weeklong, we will be taking stock of ~을 평가하다 the war on several fronts.

The military, the political and the personal.

 

Tonight, though, here’s a partial snap shot 엿봄 of where things stand.

More than 2,300 US troops have been killed in Iraq.

More than 17,000 have been wounded.

The number of Iraqis killed in the past 3 years is much higher, at least 30,000.

the cost of the war,

the Department of the Defense 국방부 puts 어림잡다, 산정하다 it at nearly $ 200 billion.

Some estimates are much higher than that.

 

Still 3 years later, it is a fact that Saddam Hussein has been captured and put on trial …을 공판에 회부하다.

There have been elections. Those purple fingers!

And there is freedom of expression now in Iraq,

dozens of TV and radio stations, newspapers and magazines

that didn’t exist 3 years ago.

 

For the insurgents 폭도, 반란자 in Iraq tonight,

3 years is just another opportunity for violence.

At least, 8 Iraqi policemen were killed by roadside bombs today.

And authorities said they found 15 bodies

riddled with 탄환 등으로 <배·벽·사람 등을> 벌집으로 만들다 bullets dumped <무책임하게> 버리다 in Baghdad.

Hi there, John? The government says bird flu will likely make it to the US, but says

that should not be a reason to panic 공포에 질리다 at this time.

The Agricultural Department is saying it’s been monitoring cases of the disease which have popped up 갑자기 나타나다 around the world,

and is working on expanding an early warning system.

But it adds that bird cases of the virus are not a sign of coming epidemic 유행병, 전염병 among humans.
