A huge study offering hard evidence that the risk of breast cancer goes up 10% with just one drink a day and goes way up as more alcohol is consumed. We’re gonna start off here tonight with our chief science correspondent Robert Bazell.
The study out today confirmed the link between alcohol consumption and breast cancer risk. It has been known for years. But this study is especially impressive because the Kaiser Permanente Health Group looked at records for more than 70,000 women over a 20-year period.
It found that women who drink as little as one drink a day have a 10% increased risk while those who drink three drinks a day or more have a 30% increased risk. The study found that it is the alcohol itself that causes the increased risk, not the type. “It makes no difference in… in terms of whether woman drinks wine, a liquor, or beer.”
Scientists suspect ~이 아닌가 하고 생각하다 that alcohol increases production of the female hormone estrogen which is why it increases breast cancer risk. It’s important to point out that these are studies over large populations. There are a lot of women who drink heavily 많이, who never get breast cancer. And tragically there are women who get the disease even though they never had a drink in their life, Brian.
