Now to news on immigration 이주, 이민. A place you might not expect there to be much friction 충돌, 마찰 on that issue, but there is. In Switzerland, what’s gone on there and the run up to elections that will be held on Sunday has taken a lot of the world by surprise. Violent political rallies 집회, charges 비난 of racism 인종차별 and a campaign poster a lot of people found shocking. We get more tonight from NBC’s Donna Frizen.

 

Switzerland, known for its tranquility 평온, its prosperity 부유. But as in the rest of Europe, immigration is changing the face of this alpine 알프스 산맥의 nation and has ignited ~ 불을 붙이다 a bitter debate. Violence at a recent political rally provoked 선동하다 by the policies of Switzerland’s far-right 극우, 극단적 보수주의 party. It created this poster showing three white sheep kicking out a black sheep. For a greater security, the caption reads. The black sheep, the party President claims, symbolizes ~ 상징하다 trouble makers and criminals.

 

It has nothing to do with ~ 관련이 없다 racism, he says. But try telling that to Haitian-born James Felipe. You feel like the black sheep. “Yeah.He represents Europe’s new reality. One that looks and sounds very different from the past. One in five people in Switzerland now are foreign born. A fact, some find hard to face. “It’s the idea of losing one’s soul. We are inundated by ~ 넘치다 foreigners and they just come to take advantage of the privileges 특권 we have.”

 

The subtext 배후 숨은 의미 of this campaign is that the influx 밀어닥침, 쇄도 of immigrants 이주자 have somehow polluted Swiss society, threatening its laws and customs 관습, even the very identity of the country.
