From NBC News, this is TODAY with Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira, live from Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza. This is a war zone and fire is the enemy. “This is obviously one of the most devastating <완전히> 파괴적인 ones I’ve ever fought.” In southern California, wind-fed flames are engulfing 완전히 뒤덮다 acre after acre and tragically, home after home.

 

There’s been air support from helicopters dumping 와르르 쏟아 버리다 water. Tuesday, massive DC-10 aircraft arrived, dropping fire fighting chemicals. But the fire is still winning. The newest battle ground, Lake Arrowhead, a mountain resort northeast of Los Angeles with hundreds of homes consumed by fire, the entire area was evacuated 대피시키다 with 10,000 homes at risk.

 

As many as 900,000 people have been evacuated in San Diego County. And that’s just the start of an awful waiting game. “And we have found out today that our house is standing in the middle of two houses that have burnt down. And I’m just, you know, sort of in a state of shock. Actually it’s just hitting me right now, I think.”

 

The dangerous hot air and tinder dry conditions are sparking fires to the north in Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties creating a ring of fire in southern California. But slowly, firefighters are starting to get the upper hand ~보다 우세하다 with some help from mother nature as the winds that fueled the fires finally begin to slow down.

 

With fires still burning, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is asking President Bush for much of southern California to be declared a major disaster area eligible for ~에 적합한 more federal aid. “The key thing that all of this is that we help people rebuild their homes as quickly as possible.” People like the Miller family who returned to their home here in Rancho Bernardo have lost everything. “We never thought that our house would burn. It’s just basically starting all over and we’re not young kids anymore.”
