Good morning, Matt. It’s been a tumultuous 소란스러운 24 hours in Pakistan with the assassination, rioting and now worrying questions about stability here. Thousands of mourners 애도자 gathered in Benazir Bhutto’s home village to pay final respects to the women who so many hoped would lead Pakistan back into democracy and stability.

 

Those dreams imploded 내파하다 Thursday at this rally 집회 at Rawalpindi where Bhutto stood up in her armored vehicle and through the sunroof acknowledged her supporters. An assassin 암살자 shot 5 times with a handgun hitting Bhutto twice in the neck and head. The killer then exploded a bomb. Dozens were killed on the ground. Bhutto died on the way to the hospital.

 

Bhutto had been targeted before narrowly escaping death in October following her return from years in exile 망명. Bombers hit her motorcade killing at least 140 supporters. She spoke with Anne Curry soon after about the danger to herself and her backers. “They put their lives on the line and I put my life on the line. And we did it because we want to save Pakistan.”
