Tonight from Iowa. It’s a dash 돌진, 돌격 to the starting line. With the first voting of this presidential election year, now just hours away. There’s a dead heat 무승부, 막상막하 among the democrats. A potential surprise on the republican side. And the candidates 후보자 are spending every last minute pleading for 간청하다 support. “Thank you all for being here.”

 

And who are these votes who wield 휘두르다, 미치다 so much political power? “The image that people have of Iowans with pitchforks 건초용 포크, 갈퀴 in their hands is just quite outdated 시대에 뒤진.” This is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, reporting tonight from the law library at the Iowa state capital in Des Moines.

From America’s newsroom, I’m Ainsley Earhardt. Pakistan saying that it will announce on Wednesday when it will hold parliamentary 의회의 elections. The vote was postponed because of the assassination 암살 of the former Prime Minister 총리 Benazir Bhutto last week. And the chaos 대혼란 that has ensued 계속되다 in Pakistan ever since. The election was supposed to be held next week, but one official tells the Associated Press that the elections will not occur before the second week of February.

 

An American diplomat 외교관 and his driver was shot and killed in Sudan today. Officials are now trying to determine if this attack was terror related targeting the diplomat or just a random 임의의 act of violence. However, the killing comes one day after President Bush signed legislation to allow state and local governments to pull their money out of companies which invest in Sudan due to the violence in Darfur.
