Good morning. It’s Monday, January 7. From CBS News in New York City, I’m Meg Oliver. Much of the western United States is tying to dry out and shovel ~ 삽으로 파다 mud before another winter storm hits. At least 3 deaths are blamed on severe weather this weekend. Hundreds of thousands of customers up and down California are still without power. CBS’s Jennifer Miller reports.

In California, the rush to clean up storm damage is a race against time. Sunday, the rain lightened up <속어> ~ 심각하게 생각하지 않다, but the forecast promises more rain and snow. For days now, hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses have been without power from San Francisco to the Central Valley.

The severe <태풍· > 심한, 맹렬한 storm that reached as far north as Seattle brought 3 days of heavy snow, rain and high winds that have knocked down hundreds of miles of power lines. Huge trees were snapped ~ 부러뜨리다 and slammed into whatever was in the way 방해가 되어. And more rain is a big concern here in southern California where recent wild fires stripped 제거하다, 비우다 hundreds of thousands of acres leaving the area vulnerable to mudslides.

This is what’s left of a rain-soaked 흠뻑 젖은 backyard in San Diego. It slid right down to the road, but no one was injured. In Fernley, Nevada, streets that flooded Saturday are now frozen over making the cleanup much more difficult. Hundreds of people still can’t go back to their homes as officials assess 평가하다 the damage. “The, the focus today is to get people settled.”

What caused the hole in the levee 제방, is under investigation. In northern California, snow continued. A rare sight on Mount Hamilton in San Francisco as one of the worst winter storms in years won’t seem to go away. Jennifer Miller, CBS News, Malibu, California.
