마틴 루터 킹 데이

Well, good afternoon, everybody on this holiday, MLK Day, January 21. I’m Chuck Roberts with CNN Headlines News. Here are the stories we’re following. Civil rights leaders, politicians and others gathered at Ebenezer Baptist Church 침례교회 in Atlanta to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy.

 

He was a third generation minister 목사 at that church, co-pastoring there with his father Daddy King from 1960 till his death. At the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library today, President Bush spoke of King’s legacy of hope and compassion 동정, 연민.

 

“Martin Luther King Day is… it means two things to me. One is an opportunity, renew our deep desire for America to be a hope of a land of promise for everybody, a land of justice and a land of opportunity. It’s also an opportunity to serve our fellow citizens.” The President called the civil rights leader a towering figure 비범한 인물.

 

Mitt Romney in Florida

 

Republican presidential candidates are glad-handing <남을> 따뜻하게 맞이하다 in Florida today. Next week’s primary is fast approaching. And for some of them, it threatens to become the end of the campaign trail 선거유세여행. Mary Snow’s in Orlando with the candidates.

 

Several of the Republican presidential hopefuls <선거의> 입후보자 are making their way to the Jacksonville area today. Mitt Romney started his day here. One of his events was stopping here at parade honoring Dr. Martin Luther King. I caught up with him and asked him what he would do if elected President, to break down racial barriers still existing in the United States.
