Good evening. When Eliot Spitzer was attorney general <주의> 검찰총장 of New York, he was nicknamed the sheriff 보안관 of Wall Street. He gained a reputation around the country for aggressively 적극적인, 의욕적인 cracking down on ~을 엄하게 단속하다 corporate corruption 부패. He was elected governor with a reputation for fighting crime and it was widely believed he hoped to run 입후보하다, some day, for national office.

 

So it was nothing short of ~이나 다름없는 a political earthquake 지진, 대변동 today when it was revealed that Spitzer himself was linked to a federal investigation into a prostitution ring. He has not been charged with ~한 혐의로 기소되다 the crime. ABC’s Dan Harris is here now with all the details.

 

Elizabeth, good evening. Governor Eliot Spitzer came to office vowing to restore 회복하다 ethics 윤리 and integrity 정직. But as he said today, he failed to live up to ~에 따라 <부끄럽지 않은> 행동을 하다 the standards he set for himself. It was a supremely 최고로 humiliating 굴욕적인 press conference 기자회견 for a man who made his name as a crusading <강력히> 개혁<박멸>하는 public servant 공무원.

 

“I’ve acted in a way that violated 위반하다 my obligations 의무, 책임 to my family and that violated my or any sense of right and wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public whom I promised better.”

 

Governor Eliot Spitzer was caught up in a federal investigation into an alleged ~이라고들 말하는 high-priced 값비싼 prostitution ring called Emperor’s Club VIP which charged up to $5,500 an hour. On its website, the company claims to service a select group of educated, refined 품위 있는, and successful international clients.
