The Olympic torch 횃불 was run through the streets of Hong Kong before tens of thousands of cheering 환호하는 spectators 구경꾼 in a sea of patriotic 애국적인 red. Much harder to see, a handful of demonstrators 데모 참가자 allowed to protest by authorities 당국 anxious to keep things calm. Some protestors were separated from the crowds.
Because they treated the Olympic torch so badly, we’re really furious 격노한. Activists around the world have been drawn to the torch’s flame using it to spotlight ~에 스포트라이트를 향하게 하다 China’s policies on Tibet, human rights, and foreign investment, trying to send a message to China’s leaders.
