The top supermarkets and restaurants are scrambling 앞을 다투어 ~하려고 애쓰다 to remove the popular roma tomatoes from their menus and shelves because the FDA warns the tomatoes are linked to a dangerous outbreak <전쟁, 유행병 따위의> 발발, 발생 of salmonella food poisoning 식중독. “The elderly and the very young are also at higher risk for having what’s called invasive salmonella infections. And these can be very life-threatening.”

 

This is a very rare strain 계통, <유전적> 소질 of salmonella in the tomatoes. The CDC 질병통제센터 thinks that many more people may have become sick than have been reported. “This could affect the whole country. I mean, we’re talking about tomatoes grown by large commercial firms that get shipped 보내다, 수송하다 everywhere.”

 

So far, officials do not know what is causing the salmonella in tomatoes. 2 years ago, nearly 200 people got sick and 3 died when spinach 시금치 was contaminated with E. Coli. Cherry and grape tomatoes are safe. But the FDA says to avoid <의식적으로 미리> 피하다 most large raw tomatoes. They may no longer even be available tonight at your favorite restaurant and grocery store.
