Faith in America

Good evening. We begin tonight with faith in America and a survey which provides some surprising insight not only into how many Americans view their own religion, but also the beliefs of others. The survey by the Pew Forum shows that most Americans are less rigid about their beliefs than was commonly thought.  70% believe that religions other than their own can lead to an eternal life. Only one fourth believes that theirs is the one true faith. ABC’s Dan Harris is here with more on this surprising survey.

Elizabeth, good evening. As you know in this country, religion has sometimes played a divisive 불화를 일으키는 role, especially in debates over visceral 본능적인, 마음속에서 느끼는 issues like abortion 낙태 and gay marriage. But today’s new poll numbers show Americans are actually very open-minded about faith.

Given ~라는 것을 감안하면 the fiery 격하기 쉬운 religious rhetoric 수사법, 화려한 문체 wielded 행사하다, <영향 등을> 미치다 in the so-called culture wars, this is a counterintuitive 반직관적인 notion that the vast majority of religious Americans say many faiths, not just their own, can lead to eternal life. “Absolutely, absolutely.” It’s a sentiment 의견, 생각 we heard at this Episcopal Church, St John the Divine. “I believe in everybody’s religion. It’s hard for me to be just nailed into 못박다, <시선, 주의 따위를> 한곳에 집중시키다 Christianity.” And from Catholics, too.
