북한, 냉각탑 폭파 현장

Now to a remarkable change in US policy toward North Korea. Today, President Bush lifted ~ 풀다, 해제하다 trade sanctions 제재 on the nation that’s long been treated as a pariah 부랑자, but only after the North Koreans turned over details of their nuclear program. Our chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan is in Washington and Lara, this is a significant about-face 180 전향. That’s right, Katie, the Bush administration 행정부 has gone from branding <as 함께> ~에게 ~라는 낙인을 찍다 North Korea as part of an axis of evil 악의 to asking Congress to remove them from the terrorism blacklist.”

One more note from overseas, North Korea’s most visible nuclear symbol was demolished 파괴하다 today. A plant explosion took down the cooling tower 냉각탑 at its main nuclear reactor 핵원자로 where the secretive government made plutonium for nuclear weapons. Yesterday President Bush lifted sanctions against the North Koreans after they handed over details of that country’s nuclear program.

Now to North Korea which today took another step to convince the world it’s committed to ~ 약속하다 ending its nuclear weapons program. The North Koreans demolished the cooling tower for their main atomic reactor. Among those looking on 지켜보다, were inspectors 시찰자 from the US and the United Nations. ABC’s Stephanie Sy was the only broadcast reporter at the reactor site.

This is what remains of the cooling tower at Yongbyun Nuclear Reactor, a facility which was built in 1985 and is the crown jewel 최고로 중요한 부문 of North Korea’s nuclear program. This was a highly symbolic gesture for this country to show that it is holding up 정지하다 its side of the nuclear negotiations. “It wasn’t cheap, either. The United States paid $2.5 million for the demolition.”
