The headline numbers read 8.5 million Americans out of work 실직중인, unemployment 실업률, 실직 5.5 %. But economists say the headlines don’t tell the whole story. They don’t count the growing number of Americans like Valerie who now work part-time only because they cannot find a full-time job. “There was a time that my monthly income was $2,000 a month.And the Labor Department says total unemployment jumps from 5.5% to 9.9%. “That actually right now is a better indicator 지표 of just how weak this job market is.”

 

Employers are not just cutting jobs, they’re also cutting hours and paychecks 급료<지불 수표>. And the timing couldn’t be worse. While weekly earnings in the past year are up less than 3%, a gallon of gas is up 39%. “Paychecks are decisively 결정적으로 not keeping up with 따라오다 the cost of living.”

 

“This is Dena, may I help you?” Today’s report also revealed a growing gender divide in this job market. One that’s been worse for men than women. Not surprising perhaps, when you consider that men hold 70% of manufacturing jobs and 88% of construction jobs. Two sectors <사회·산업 > 부문, 분야 of the job market that have been hardest hit.
