올림픽 준비에 한창인 베이징


From ABC News headquarters, this is World News with Charles Gibson. Still overseas, it is now less than 30 days until the Olympic summer games. And for China, these games are, of course, critical 결정적인, 중대한. They are sort of coming-out party 데뷔 축하 파티, an opportunity to showcase ~ 소개하다 the new China. So what are they doing to make sure China looks good? ABC’s Stephanie Sy is in Beijing.

 

Beijing is preparing to put its best face forward, only tall, slim, and pretty women need apply to become Olympic hostesses. Citizens are instructed 교육하다 on how to cheer the proper way at sporting events. And there are a whole bunch of 굉장히 많은 new no-no’s. Spitting 침을 뱉다 on the streets, practically 실지로, 거의, ~이나 마찬가지인 a national pastime 국민적 오락, is now punishable by a fine 벌금.

 

When you have a visitor, says Zheng Mojie, the Miss. Manners of Beijing, you need to clean up your house. Key to the house cleaning is a 57 million dollar investment in renovating and building more than 5,000 public restrooms. The bathrooms near the historical monuments have definite 명확한 Chinese characteristics 특성 and rather stunning architecture, actually. Never thought I’d say this, but this is one of the top-rated johns in Beijing.

 

“Welcome to Beijing.” Thousands of Olympic volunteers are learning English. In this class, by reenacting 재연하다 common conversations with a Chinese woman impersonating ~으로 분장하다 a foreigner. “Where are you from? I’m from Canada.”

 

But the preparations aren’t only cosmetic 표면적인. A 100,000 strong anti-terrorism force has been trained to guard the games. And the government even has plans to control the weather, shooting at clouds in a not so full-proof attempt to make it rain and clear out smog if need be 필요하다면.
