From ABC News, this is World News with Charles Gibson, reporting tonight from Jerusalem. I’m Joohee Cho on the west coast of the Korean peninsula. When the hot and humid 습기 있는, 눅눅한 summer begins, Koreans flock 모이다 to the beach. This one where I’m standing is one of the most popular destinations not because of the sand and surf 밀려드는 파도, but because of the mud. “Let’s get dirty” is the theme 주제, 테마 for this summer festival.

 

All this mud comes from nearby beaches. Dug 파다 and processed 가공<처리>하다 from tidal mudflats 개펄. It may seem dirty, but scientists say it’s actually good for your skin and body. It works as a sunblock 자외선 방지 크림 for all ages. In effect 사실상, it’s a free mud spa experience for all Korean vacationers hoping to beat the summer heat.

 

I’m Clarissa Ward in Baghdad. Most Iraqis can’t afford to go overseas on vacation and traveling within the country is still very dangerous. So when those temperatures start to soar 높이 치솟다 above 120 degrees, the pool becomes the summer destination.

 

Located in an old hotel, this pool is one of the few places used by Iraqis of all religious persuasions 교의, 교파. It’s a safe place to play, no guns, no bombs, but also no women. In Muslim 이슬람교의 cultures, it’s forbidden 금지된 for women to be unclothed in the presence of ~의 면전에서 men who are not immediate family. Admission 입장료 here isn’t free. Iraqis have to pay around $10, a small price for some peace and some cool.

 

I’m Lara Setrakian on the northern coast of Egypt. Each summer, millions of Egyptians come up to these white sand beaches on vacation. They drive up in droves 떼를 지어 from Cairo spending summer days and nights on the beach eating fish and smoking water pipes 물 담배.

 

Rich or poor, the more conservative women in this Muslim society, don’t show much skin in public. Even in the water, they cover up from head to toe. After dark, the nightclubs come alive 활기를 띠다 along the shore. Mostly full of men watching traditional belly dancers for entertainment.
