베이징 올림픽 삼엄한 경비

 

From NBC News, this is a special edition of TODAY, countdown to Beijing with Matt Lauer, live from Beijing, China. And Meredith Vieira, live from Washington DC. Matt, there were at least 3 very small protests here today. They only involved a handful of 소수의 people, but at one stage, 4 foreign activists including 2 Americans did manage to hang a banner that said Free Tibet. They were quickly taken away by police. Demonstrators here have been finding it very difficult to organize amid ~ 한창일 때에 the heavy security.

 

Corner, outside stadiums, in train stations, in Tiananmen Square, they’re watching. About half million solider, police and volunteers now guard Beijing. There are more eyes in the sky. Tens of thousands of cameras.

 

The security strategy 전략 here is simple and mostly low tech blanket ~ 온통 덮다 the streets. “They want to see lots of gold, but they also want to see lots of control. They want China to be portrayed as strong.” As we filmed our story, we found ourselves often filmed and followed. “Better safe than sorry 유비무환, I think, is the…is the approach. The leadership clearly doesn’t want to haveany threat to this, to these games.”

 

The main threat, according to the government, comes from Islamic radicals 격론자, 급진주의 with alleged links to Al-Qaeda. They have threatened the games, carried out 수행, 실행하다 bus bombings. And this week, killed 16 policemen in a remote western region.

 

China is especially concerned about the opening ceremony 개막식 and has deployed surface-to-air missiles 지대공 미사일 to shoot down any unauthorized aircrafts approaching the stadium where 80 heads of state are expected. China calls it an unprecedented 전례가 없는 security responsibility.
