경제 침체로 불황을 앓고 있는 패션계

Fashion Week in New York, seven days of the hottest trends, and a frenzy 열광 of fabulous 아주 멋진. But this week the couture <디자이너가 만든> 여성복 crowd debut their sweet looks for spring in a sour <구어> 좋지 않은 economy. Shoppers just aren't buying like they use to. "Normally, it's like, I want the funky <속어> 멋진 shoes and the funky bag and…..it's not like that anymore."

 

Designers are creating their collections with a backdrop 배경 of a stagnant 침체해 있는 retail market, soaring fuel prices and a battered 박살난 stock market. They're having to ask themselves, in a down economy, "How do you grin 이를 드러내고 싱긋 웃다 and wear it?" It forced big name designer Isaac Mizrahi to take a reality check. "Before you start working on a collection, you think, 'Oh, right. People have no money to buy these things, sohow am I going to make them interested.'”

Glamour Magazine's Editor in Chief Cindi Leive says, "That old idea that used to exist in fashion of, the new collections are out, I've got to go get something new just for the sake of newness doesn't really exist right now."

 

Last month, with the exception of WalMart, retailers saw declines in sales as high as nearly 8%. As a result, retail analysts say buyers have cut inventory and may place fewer orders. So some high-end 고급의 designers are jumping on the bandwagon 시류에 편승하다, “I actually bought this in Target,” targeting budget consumers in lower-priced venues 장소.

 

Dean Harris makes jewelry that normally sells in the low thousands. Most pieces in his new Target line are under $40.
