At Aquafit Spas in Los Angeles, Mats Elmstrom worries about going under 파산하다. Last week, he closed one retail location. Today, he faced another horrible decision. “I’m in a position where I, you know, I have to pull the plug on ~을 중단하다 this location, too.” For the first time in 12 years, the bank refused to lend him money. He’s used his credit cards, even dipped into 대강 훑어보다 his retirement fund to keep his business and his workers afloat 빚지지 않도록 하다. “I feel responsible for the people that work for me, too. You know, It’s their income, it’s their family, it’s their mortgages, it’s their car loans.”
Tightening credit is putting a choke hold on 질식시키다 the loans that are a lifeline for so many businesses nationwide. At the Advantage Auto Group near Chicago, “foot traffic 보행자, customer traffic is absolutely down,” so are sales by 30%. Part of the reason? Banks are holding back 망설이다, 주저하다 on loans for new cars. “If they don’t have the resources 수단, 의지할 수 있는 것 to be able to lend, then I’m very concerned about my ability to continue to operate my business on a daily basis.”
