인도와 파키스탄, 감정 격화

 

Next, we turn overseas to India where protestors vented <감정 등을> 터뜨리다 their anger today at their neighbors in Pakistan whom they think harbor <죄인 등을> 숨겨주다 the terrorists who attacked last week in Mumbai and at their own government for not responding better when the terrorists attacked. Just today police found two bombs in the Mumbai train station. Six days after it was allowed to reopen. Dan Harris is in Mumbai.

 

Exactly a week after the terrorists hit, a massive demonstration 시위운동 here in Mumbai tonight. Thousands rallying 집합하다 in front of the charred 까맣게 and scarred 흉터가 생긴 Taj Mahal hotel. Many of them chanting 일제히 외치다 death to Pakistan. “Do you want a war?” “We want a war against them.” “Have a fight. Have a….. Be a man enough. Have a fight, a direct fight.” To try to calm nerves 신경과민, 안달 between these nuclear rivals, the United States launched 내보내다 the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff 합참의장 to Pakistan, the Secretary of State 국무장관 to India. “I have said that Pakistan needs to act with resolve 결의 and urgency and cooperate fully and transparently 투명하게, 솔직하게.”

 

Both the US and India say it was Pakistani terrorists who carried out the 3-day siege 포위공격 in Mumbai. And India is demanding that Pakistan hand over 넘겨주다 12 militants 병사, 폭도. But Pakistan’s president has refused to do so. And he even told CNN’s Larry King that he doubts India’s claim that the sole surviving attacker is Pakistani.

 

US sources say President Bush is personally angered by the attack and that the White House might threaten to cut off US military aid 원조 if Pakistan doesn’t crack down on ~ 단호한 조치를 취하다 terror groups. Here in Mumbai, while Indians are angry at Pakistan, they are perhaps even more angry at their own politicians who failed to heed ~ 주의하다 warnings of an imminent 임박한 attack. There are many people here who believe that this outpouring <감정 등의> 분출 of anger at the politicians could mark 나타내다 a turning point 전환기 for this huge and dynamic 활동적인 country.
