Good morning from CBS news headquarters in New York, this is Up To the Minute. I’m Meg Oliver. This morning, President Bush returns to Washington after the final trip of this administration 행정부 to Iraq and Afghanistan. “Two conflicts” likely to define this presidency. In Afghanistan, Mr. Bush gave a pep talk 격려 연설 to US troops at the sprawling 불규칙하게 넓어지는 Bagram air base outside Kabul. American commanders 지휘관 in Afghanistan say the military situation there is deteriorating. But their call for more troops still hasn’t been answered.

Afterward, Mr. Bush flew to the palace of Afghan President Hamid Karzai for a meeting. But it wasn’t earlier stop at Iraq that grabbed <마음을> 사로잡다 headlines. CBS’s Shrell Mcvicker reports. One more time for the last time, President Bush secretly traveled to Iraq. “I am just so grateful that I had a chance to come back to Iraq before my presidency ended.”

A chance to celebrate the new agreement between Iraq’s government and the US over the future presence <군대 등의> 주둔 of US troops in the country. But not everyone was as happy to see him as Iraq’s Prime Minister, as this American pool reporter 대표취재기자 tells us. Just as the men were shaking hands, an Iraqi reporter in the small crowds stood up and hurled not one, but two shoes at the President, forcing Mr. Bush to duck to avoid getting hit. His Press Secretary <대통령의> 대변인 Dana Perino was hit in the eye by a microphone.

The man was wrestled 넘어 뜨리다 to the ground and pulled out of the room, screaming all the way. Mr. Bush joked about the incident. “It’s a size-10 shoe that he threw.” In the Arab world, throwing a shoe is a terrible insult 모욕. “You Know, I thought it was interesting. I thought it was weird 이상한. I thought it was unusual to have a guy throw his shoe at you. But I’m…I…I don’t….I’m not insulted.” The Iraqi reporter working for a local television station and three others were arrested and reportedly beaten.
