2009년 제44대 대통령 취임식 연설현장
On this day, we come to proclaim 선언<공포>하다 an end to the petty 보잘것없는, 저급의 grievances 불평거리 and false promises, the recriminations 맞비난 and worn-out 진부한 dogmas 독단적 주장, that for far too long have strangled 억압하다, 묵살하다 our politics. We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture 성서, the time has come to set aside 버리다 childish things.
Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off <재난에서> 재기하다, and begin again the work of remaking America. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works. As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.
Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. know that
And for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing 야기하다, 일으키다 terror and slaughtering 학살하다 innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken. You cannot outlast ~보다 오래 가다 us, and we will defeat you. To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.
To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow <싸움, 소문 따위의> 씨를 뿌리다 conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West, know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility, a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world.
