Plane Crash – Breaking News -
Good morning. Two crashes, no survivors. In Montana, 7 adults and 7 children killed when their plane nose-dives into a cemetery. And in Japan, 2 American pilots killed when a cargo plane explodes into flames on the runway. Today, Monday, March 23rd, 2009. From NBC News, this is TODAY with Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira, live from studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza.
There’s big news this morning involving not one but two deadly plane crashes. The first, a private plane shuttling왕복수송하다 family and friends on a ski trip. The flight originated in California was supposed to land in Bozeman, Montana, but at some point, the pilot cancelled his flight plan and headed for an airport in Butte. Moments later, it crashed into a cemetery 500 feet short of the airport. We’re gonna get a live update from the scene in just a moment. We’ll also talk with a couple in the area at that time who witnessed the crash. And then, Meredith, take a look at this. We’re gonna talk about another plane crash. A FedEx cargo plane that was trying to land at an airport in Tokyo. The winds were blowing hard. The camera’s rolling as that plane tumbled down꼬꾸라지다 the runway. Two crew members, both Americans, are dead.
But we will start with that private plane crash in Montana that left 14 dead including 7 children on their way to a ski vacation. NBC’s Leanne Gregg is in Butte for us this morning. Leanne, good morning to you. Good morning, Meredith. So far, there’s no indication of what caused the plane to crash while it tried to land here at the airport in Butte Sunday afternoon. Federal investigators arrived last night. Today, they began trying to determine what happened.
The single engine turbo prop Pilatus PC-12 like this one is certified to carry 12 passengers. But the early indications are that many of those on board were children reported to be headed from California to Montana on a ski trip. The flight originated in San Diego on Saturday evening and flew to Redlands. Flight records show the flight left for Vacaville Sunday morning and then on to Oroville 70 miles from Sacramento where it stopped to refuel. Witnesses describe seeing many children get off the plane.
Investigators say the flight departed Oroville at 11:10 AM heading for Montana. The pilot had filed the flight plan which showed Bozeman, Montana as the destination. And it’s still not known why the plane changed course. Coming down, instead, nose-diving just outside the Butte airport 85 miles from Bozeman.
We begin this hour with some breaking news. It’s out of Butte, Montana where a plane has crashed tonight. CNN affiliate지부 there, the KRTV is reporting a number of fatalities사망자수, but nothing confirmed as of now. Details are still coming in on this. Some are very sketchy. But we can tell you that the plane which took off this morning from Oroville, California was bound for Bozeman, Montana. Something went wrong, prompting부추키다 the pilot to change his flight plan. The Associated Press is reporting the plane went down just a few hundred feet short of the runway at the Butte air facility and crashed in a nearby cemetery.
