미국인들의 월드컵에 대한 인식

It’s the most popular sport on the planet. So why is there no danger of World Cup fever spreading here? I’m Sharon Alfosie with that story. This is the CBS Evening News with Bob Schieffer.

 

And finally tonight, the United States was eliminated 탈락시키다, 떨어뜨리다 from the World Cup of soccer today when Ghana beat the American team 2 to 1. It was a tough loss, but if first reports are right, we’ll get over <충격 등에서>회복하다 it. Here’s Sharon Alfonsie.

 

The entire island of Manhattan gathered to watch the World Cup today. Well, not exactly the entire island. Just this small one in the center of Times Square, really and a handful of 소수의 bars. Everyone else, what do you think the World Cup is? “Is it for basketball?”, seemed to care less! “US has a soccer team?” They do. How do you not notice Clint Dempsey? He scored a smashing 굉장한 10 yard shot today.

 

In some countries, that would make you a candidate ~이 될듯한 사람 for sainthood 성인의 자격<신분>. Who is Clint Dempsey? “I don’t know.” Not this one. Who do you think Clint Dempsey is? “The boxer? Is he a poker star?” Can you name any of the players on the US soccer team? “Of course not.” Most people don’t care. In fact, the only US player most people can name, David Beckham, is the captain of England’s team. How do you know David Beckham? “Posh Spice 베컴 아내의 닉네임.” Most Americans still don’t know the players, the positions.

 

If I say to you, sweeper 골키퍼 앞에 위치하는 선수, what do you think? “Somebody cleaning streets, I guess.” Or the plays like this maneuver 기술을 요하는 방법 called the chest trap 날아오는 공을 가슴으로 잡는 기술. Experts say what the US needs to do is win on a world stage. Fortunately, there are millions of soccer fans who know exactly how to fix the US program. There’s just one tiny problem. What’s the problem with the US team? They’re not from here. Sharon Alfonsie, CBS News, New York.
