The nation’s top money man says the economy may be bottoming out, but warns of more hard times first!  Flu death, .the virus claims a life in Texas as the number of cases grows and even the experts don’t know when the worst will be over! In harms way, 1000s flee as a deadly showdown looms(흐릇하게 보이다) in Pakistan! Can the Teliban be stopped? And bean counters: On the frontlines of the coffee wars and look who has joined the battle now. Good evening, I am Anne Kury in for Brian Williams, after months of bad news about the economy, tonight, a word of hope and from a powerful voice. The chairman at the Federal Reserve said today, the economic downturn may be nearing a bottom, but he also said it will get worse before it gets better! We turned now to the increasingly dire(긴박한) situation in Pakistan! Civilians are fleeing some areas as Pakistan’s army and the TELIBAN go head to head!  Chief Foreign correspondent Richard Angle now joins us with more on this, Richard!

 

Good evening Anne! A 3 months truce(휴전) between the Pakistani government and the TELIBAN  appears now to be over! As the military is preparing for what it says, will be a major offensive in the SWAT VALLEY! The exodus before battle! 1000s of Pakistanis today escaped the SWAT VALLEY, some carrying their children! As many as a half million could be displaced after the Pakistani government today ordered civilians out of SWAT ahead of a military offensive!

 

Tonight the chairman of the Fed sees an end to this recession in just a few months! But look for unemployment to keep rising! I am JEFF GLORE, also tonight, a mass exodus from Pakistan’s SWAT VALLEY! As many as a half million start to flee, expecting a showdown between the TELIBAN and the Pakistani army! This is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

 

And Good evening, KITTIE is on assignments! We begin tonight with a question everyone’s asking. When will this recession end? The chairman of the Fed says the end is in sight now, telling congress today he sees a turnaround later this year, but even if that happens, he said, unemployment will keep rising! In other news tonight President OBAMA welcomes the leaders of Pakistan and Afghanistan to the White House tomorrow! Their meeting comes as Pakistan’s military prepares for a showdown with the TELIBAN in the SWAT VALLEY!
