Good evening, we learned about something today that’s gonna be in a big change for the cars of tomorrow. The federal government is about to take the biggest step in history to clean up auto exhaust and increase gas mileage! While today right now, there are California emission standards that govern the amounts of pollutants공해물질 that are allowed to exit the tailpipe of cars and trucks, the president wants one national standard , a full 30 % tougher on pollution and fuel economy by 2016! And as you may know in the car business, that is just around the corner! We’re going to begin our coverage of this story tonight here in NY with our chief environmental affairs correspondent Anne Thompson, Anne Good Evening!

Tomorrow’s announcement would change what America drives to the future by limiting the amount of green house gas’s vehicles putting the air and dramatically raising the amount of miles they get to the gallon! Environmental and auto industry sources say the president’s plan will include changes California and 13 other states wanted to enact, including a 30% reduction in green house gas emissions by 2016! The Bush administration said no to that request! The Obama administration is now embracing기꺼이 받아들이다 it! Environmentalists say it’s a win for everyone! “This is a huge development we worked for more than 20 years to raise fuel economy standards in congress” Curbing억제하다 such pollution will be achieved in part, by increasing fuel economy standards. The New York Times reports that combined standard for cars and light trucks will be about 35 miles per gallon by 2016.
Now the federal standards will be an important piece of the puzzle for the survival of the auto industry, according to a source to the discussions. And because the industry will get that certainty in the form of specific standards and lead time, you can expect to see an unusual sight more of both auto industry leaders and leaders of environmental groups standing behind president Obama when he unveils this dramatic and historic regulation.
