The government’s cash for clunker’s낡은 기계 자동차 program went into effect today giving owners of old gas guzzlers strong reasons to buy a new car that gets better mileage. But with thousands of dollars per car on the line, there is, as you might expect, plenty of fine print작은 활자의 인쇄물. Here’s Sharon Alfonzi.

 

Cindy Wassermann heard about the cash for clunker’s program and decided it was finally time to get rid of her son’s old car. “We made a decision within 12….really almost 12 hours.” The idea is simple. The government will give you a credit towards the purchase of a new more fuel efficient vehicle to allow them to scrap your old gas guzzler. Trade in any car built in 1984 or later getting 18 miles per gallon or less for a car getting at least 22 mpg and get a $3,500 voucher for a new car… any kind of new car, foreign or domestic.

 

If the new car gets 10 mpg more than your old car, you get a $ 4,500 voucher. The value of the new car can’t exceed $ 45,000. Still, automakers hope it will jumpstart sagging처지다 약해지다 sales. Similar programs in Europe are projected to계획되다 result a half million more new car sales just this year. “That’s certainly the step in the right direction, but, by no means, is the car business back on its feet!”  Still, dealers say the buzz소문 about the program is driving in customers. “At least the 20% increase in sales.” The program ends November 1^st or when the billion dollar funding runs out.
