The worst Beach in the US

What better way to beat the summer heat than a deep in the ocean? But you may want to think twice. Pollution at the beach could make you sick. A report out today says that in 2008, for the 4^th straight year, beaches were closed or advisories posted more than 20,000 times. So which ones make the grade? Here’s Kelly Wallace.

 

Vex Bay at John’s beach in New York has the unwelcome distinction of being rated one of the 13 most polluted beaches in the country. The best beaches based on water quality and the frequency the water is monitored are in California, Minnesota and New Hampshire. The dirtiest are predominantly in the northeast and Florida. Swimming in contaminated water causes hundreds of thousands of cases yearly of skin rash발진, pink eye유행성 결막염, and gastrointestinal위장의 illnesses. The problem is not just the water. According to another recent report, the sand can be as contaminated. That study found people who dig in the sand are 13% more likely to end up with stomach ailment.
