PGA 한국 챔프 탄생

Tonight, there were two extraordinary athletic performances over the weekend, worth a second look. If you’re playing Tiger Woods in the final of a major golf tournament and he is ahead, you’re not expected to do this. It’s Tiger who’s supposed to be pumping his fist, not Y. E. Yang. “I did everything I needed to do it.” Maybe no one told Y. E. Yang that no one has ever done what he did.

Normally when talking of a sporting event, there’s not time in a new broadcast to show you the entire event. But take a look at Usain Bolt yesterday. Don’t blink. Usain Bolt, a lightning Bolt indeed! Extraordinary to watch both of those.

The weather is next. Midway through the hurricane season. A quiet storm map is suddenly very active. The remnants of two storms Claudette in the south and Ana in the Caribbean appear on either side of the first hurricane in the Atlantic named Bill which could intensify in the next few days. Jeffrey Coffman is in Panama City, Florida.

Tropical storm Claudette roared ashore here in the Florida Pan Handle bringing heavy rains and 50 mile an hour winds. This storm arrived with almost no warning, forming Sunday morning in the Gulf, and making landfall just 18 hours later. People had little time to prepare. 10 weeks in the Atlantic hurricane season, there hadn’t been a single storm. Suddenly an explosion of activity. Three named storms in 30 hours.

Out at sea, what was tropical storm Ana is already falling apart. Further out hurricane Bill is gaining strength, but forecast models show it turning north and curving back into the ocean. Anyone who thought the late start to the season might bring some relief, should look at what happened 17 years ago today when that season’s first hurricane formed. Its name was Andrew. It became hurricane Andrew, one of the most powerful and destructive storms in history.

Here in Panama City, they’re putting the finishing touches on a new emergency operation center. But officials worried the public is not prepared. “We started two thirds of hurricane season left to go. It’s the most active part of the hurricane season. So they still have time to plan. Yesterday was a…..a literally wake up call.” And a wake up call for everyone who lives where the big storms come. Jeffrey Coffman, ABC News, Panama City.
