Finally tonight, it’s been 3 days since the French soccer great Zinedine Zidane achieved sports infamy 불명예. We’re talking, of course, about that that head butt 박치기. Zidane was ejected 쫓아내다, 추방하다, Italy went on to win the World Cup. And ever since, the whole world has been asking, why did he do it? Today, he tried to explain himself. Here’s ABC’s Nancy Wiener.
Zidane’s explanation for this, now infamous 불명예스러운 head butt, insults 모욕 about his mother drove him to it. He told French television, Canal-Plus. There were words that touched the innermost 가장 깊은 부분 parts of me, he said, very personal things, my mother, my sister, I would rather have taken a punch in the jaw than have heard that.
Some lip-readers 독순술에 능한 사람들 swear the Italian defender Materazzi called Zidane, ‘the son of a terrorist whore 매춘부.’ His mother is Algerian. Materazzi denies saying anything of the sort. I’m not cultured 교양 있는, the 32-year-old protested, I don’t even know what an Islamic terrorist is.
“If the insult was truly just something horrible about his mother or his sister, then, he should’ve turned the other way, gone and won the World Cup and shoved 난폭하게 밀치다 it back in his face. If it was truly a racist 인종차별주의자 kind of thing, he made the ultimate sacrifice. Unfortunately, he brought the rest of his teammates with him.”
Even Heads of State are weighing in <싸움, 논쟁에> 끼어들다, 간섭하다. The French president jumped to Zidane’s defense, calling him, a genius of world football. Zidane apologized to children around the world today for setting a bad example. But he says he doesn’t regret what he did. The guilty one, he argued, is the one who provokes 화나게 하다, 약올리다.
