Welcome to World News. Tonight, terror threat. New York police and the FBI track a terror suspect to New York and conduct a raid to stop a potential attack. The reckoning. One year after the economic collapse in 08. We’ll look at the damage done. Our series from Wall Street to Main Street: Where things stand. Death on campus. Police say a body found in a building at Yale is the missing grad student. From ABC News headquarters, this is World News with Charles Gibson.

Good evening. We’re going to begin with a flurry of activity that occurred here in New York. Members of a joint terrorism task force, New York Police and the FBI raided several residents today looking to break up a suspected terrorist attack. Just days after the anniversary of the 911 attacks, authorities were tracking a suspect who arrived in New York over the weekend. And our chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross picks up the story from there. Brian?

Charlie? Today’s action does follow a long weekend for the FBI as it tracked a young Afghani man fro m the Midwest who arrived in New York after travels to Pakistan and Afghanistan. Intercepted conversations led authorities to believe that another plot against New York, while not imminent, but it’d certainly be in the works. It was just after midnight when New York police and federal agents raided this apartment house and several other locations across the river from Manhattan in the Borough of Queens. Officials say they had expected to find bomb making materials, but none was discovered.

Some authorities fear there might have been a connection with the latest Osama Bin Laden tape which was posted on the Internet last night at the same time authorities were going to court for a search warrant. The Internet posting included a picture of the New York City skyline. New York police have disrupted numerous plots against the city’s airports and subways since 911. The intended target of this latest alleged plot has not been publicly disclosed.

Officials say one other reason for the urgency in disrupting this group was the fact that many of the presidents of the countries from around the world will be in New York later this week for the opening of the general assembly of the United Nations. Charlie? Brian? You say they tracked his travels, Pakistan and Afghanistan etcetera to the United States, how did they do that? They do that with electronic intercepts. This is a young man from this country with legal residence. He came back to this country and they were tracking him. They picked up intercepts overseas that concerned them and they continued to watch him. When he arrived in New York from the Midwest this weekend, they thought they really had something big on their hands.
